Huntington Beach, Calif. - August 4 - American Pistachio Growers (APG), a non-profit trade association representing more than 400 pistachio growers in California, Arizona and New Mexico, has partnered with USA Water Polo to provide the National Governing Body's "Official Snack"—nutritious pistachio nuts grown in the USA. As part of the agreement, American Pistachio Growers will provide pistachios for the USA Water Polo National Teams for their healthful snacking as part of a nutritious diet. In addition, a specially designed logo recognizing pistachios as the official snack of USA Water Polo will appear on packaging and in promotional materials internationally.
"We could not be happier than to welcome American Pistachio Growers into the USA Water Polo family," stated USA Water Polo CMO Jennifer Rottenberg. She added, "We've learned how incredibly nutritious pistachios are – and they taste great! They will be an important part of healthy snacking for our National Team athletes as both of our teams gear up to qualify for next summer's Olympic Games...powered by pistachios!"
"Our members are proud to grow one of the most beneficial foods that athletes can conveniently snack on, " said Jim Zion, APG Chairman, at the APG Annual Member Luncheon on July 21, where the announcement was made. "We're going to be very proud when the USA Men's and Women's Teams take their rightful place at the podium in London in 2012."
In fact, the growers are so proud of the new partnership, they announced a new promotional campaign, "The Power of Pistachios," featuring their own growers alongside USA Water Polo Team members. The campaign intends to educate and inspire while elevating awareness for both the sport and the powerhouse nut. The campaign is set to launch this fall, domestically and internationally.
