USA Water Polo Mourns The Loss Of Mark Bixby

The water polo community lost a great friend this week when Mark Bixby, a leader in the community of Long Beach, California passed away in a plane crash. Bixby, the husband of former Women's National Team standout Theresa (Breckon) Bixby was a bicycle advocate and part of one of the founding families of Long Beach.

Theresa Bixby played in three FINA World Championships in 1982, 1986, and 1991 and was part of the first USA Water Polo Hall of Fame class to include women in 2003. "Theresa is a big part of the water polo family. Our hearts reach out to her. Please remember her in your prayers," said Rich Foster, Long Beach resident, current FINA TWPC Vice Chairman, and former USA Water Polo president.

"Theresa or 'T' as we call her was very close to all her teammates and coaches on the USA Women's National Team. T met Mark through water polo. We are all so saddened by this shocking news, you can't believe all the emails that have been coming in from her Water Polo family. They all want to know if they can do anything to help, we are all grieving with all the Bixby family and they are in our thoughts," added Sandy Nitta, longtime coach of the Women's National Team.
