40+ Masters Water Polo Camp Set For March 12-14 In Los Angeles

courtesy of KAOS Water Polo Club

Los Angeles, CA - On March 12--14, the annual masters water polo camp sponsored by the KAOS Water Polo Club will be held at the famous John C. Argue Swim Stadium in Los Angeles--home of the 1932 Olympics water polo games--and the modern Santa Monica Swim Center.

Although many water polo camps are held every year in the US, this Camp is unique in that it is designed specifically for players who are least 40 years old.  Senior masters is a fast-growing sector of masters water polo, as many former high school and college players are rediscovering the sport and getting involved.  KAOS started its annual Camp program in 2004 to help fulfill the need for more events for older players.

At this year's Camp, the goalie trainer will be Steve "Harpo" Hamann and the head field-player trainer will be Gary O'Brien.  Both are back by popular demand.  The Camp will include 4 pool sessions and two chalktalks.  During the pool sessions, players will work on individual and team skills, and practice them in drills and scrimmages.  During the chalktalks, we will review game tapes and discuss strategies, and have breakout sessions for each age group.  The program runs from Friday evening through Sunday morning, so busy professionals from the midwest and eastern US can board their return flights Sunday afternoon and be back in the office Monday morning (Oh boy!).

KAOS Water Polo Camp 2010 will help prepare players from 40 to 69 years young to compete at the 13th FINA Masters World Water Polo Championships in Boras, Sweden (July 28 through August 6), for which KAOS has entered teams in the 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, and 60+ Men's Divisions.  The club is also preparing for the 2010 US Masters Nationals in San Diego (June 11--13), plus several other age-group and open-age tournaments.

Participants will be coming from across the US and as far away as Guam and Hong Kong.  The minimal water-polo age for participants is 40.  There are still a few openings available, so if you are an experienced player and interested in participating in this year's Camp, please send an e-mail to the Camp Director, Carl Strand, at:  strandeart@aol.com

This event is officially sanctioned by USA Water Polo, all USA Water Polo rules will apply, and all participants must be current members in good standing of either USAWP or their country's water polo federation.
