Stockton, CA July 26th- On a perfect day for water polo at the UOP Aquatic Center, the biggest day of the tournament as the Semi-finals had arrived. The first Semi-final of the day took place between SBWPC and NYAC. In a 15 goal thriller, NYAC doubled up SBWPC 10-5. The win advanced NYAC into the finals where they awaited the winner of the second Semi-final match up. That game was to be contested by Stanford RED and Diablo. The heavily favored Stanford RED was expected to breeze past Diablo on their way to the final, but Diablo would not go down without a fight. In a close game Diablo pushed Stanford RED to the limit bringing the best out of Stanford RED. The game ended with just a one goal difference, as Stanford RED won 8-7, swimming undefeated into the 2009 Women's National Championship game, where NYAC awaited them.
In the game everybody had been waiting for, the two teams left standing were yet to taste defeat. However, by the end of the day that would change. The game was expected to be one of the best of the tournament, and it certainly did not disappoint. As the teams combined for 25 goals. Stanford RED were one goal better on the day, taking home the title of the 2009 Women's Open National Championships in a 13-12 victory. Finishing the tournament with a perfect 7 and 0 record. NYAC gave their all and did themselves proud as they took second place in the tournament.
It was a great week for Stanford RED Women's Water polo, as they claimed both the 20 & Under, and Open 2009 Women's National Championships.
