Stanford Stays In Front For Sixth Straight Week; Bakersfield Moves Up To 16th

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Stanford University, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Hartwick College retain their holds on the No. 1 rankings in the nation as the Cardinal, Sagehens and Hawks remain the top teams in the April 1 Women's Varsity Polls released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.

The ranking marks the sixth consecutive week Stanford has held the No. 1 spot in the Varsity Top 20 as the Cardinal took over the top-ranking from the University of Southern California in the February 25 poll.

Among the Top 10 teams, little changed as University of Southern California, University of California-Los Angeles, University of Hawaii, University of California, San Jose State University, San Diego State University, Arizona State University, University of California-Irvine and Loyola Marymount University held firm at No. 2 through 10.

The only change in the Top 10 occurred at No. 10 as University of California-Davis climbed one place to tie Loyola Marymount University for the final place among the 10-best teams in the country.

Unlike the Top 10, the No. 12 through 20 positions saw dramatic change as only two of the nine teams retained their positions from the March 25 poll.

Hartwick College remains at No. 12, while the University of Michigan and California State University-Northridge climbed one and two places, respectively, to No. 13 and 14.

University of California-Santa Barbara dropped two places to No. 15, California State University-Bakersfield rose to No. 16, Long Beach State University stayed at No. 17, University of California-San Diego and Indiana University slipped to No. 18 and 19, while the University of Maryland moved into the Top 20 at No. 20.
