Huntington Beach, CA - September 29 - USA Water Polo has canceled the open tryouts for the Women's National Team that were set for Sunday October 5 in three different locations around the United States. The cancellation comes in an effort to comply with both the United States Olympic Committee and the NCAA as stated below by Director of Olympic Development, Guy Baker.
"With the completion of the 2008 Olympic Games, the process for selecting the 2012 Olympic Team has begun. As one Olympic Games ends preparations for the next begin immediately. USA Water Polo is governed by the USOC and we follow our Olympic Games Athlete Selection Procedures. Upon recent conversations with the NCAA, it is important that our 2012 Athlete Selection Procedures remain in accordance with the NCAA Rules and Regulations. In addition, we want to maintain our open system for selecting our National Teams. With that being said, we had to cancel our Open Tryouts. We cannot start our process without the approval of the USOC of our 2012 Olympic Games Athlete Selection Procedures. In addition we will be working in conjunction with the USOC and the NCAA to ensure that both governing bodies are in agreement as to the process of selecting a National and Olympic Team."
