USA Women Take Down Russia 16-5 In Final Game Before Leaving For Tokyo

Los Alamitos, CA - The USA Women wrapped up their three game exhibition series against Russia with a 16-5 victory in their last game before heading to Tokyo on Tuesday afternoon at Los Alamitos Joint Training Base. Several local dignitaries were on hand to see the action today as well as many members of the Armed Services. Those in attendance included Katrina Foley (Orange County Board of Supervisors), Ron Bates (Los Alamitos City Council), Schelly Sustarsic (Seal Beach City Council), Anne Hertz (Cypress City Council), Frances Marquez (Cypress City Council) and Dean Grose (RMAC Chairman). Team USA's offense was once again led by Maddie Musselman who scored four goals. Ashleigh Johnson played the first quarter in net notching two saves while Amanda Longan played the final three quarters and recorded 13 saves.

As in the previous two games Team USA got on the board first through a goal this time from Rachel Fattal followed by two more from Musselman as she continued her hot streak to give Team USA an early 3-0 lead. Russia responded with a goal to get on the board but the USA Women answered with two more to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first. Longan jumped into goal in the second and along with Team USA's defense shut out Russia while the offense scored 4 more goals as the USA Women took a 9-1 halftime lead.

After Aria Fischer scored to start the third Russia fought back with back to back goals to try to get back into the game. Team USA held strong though as they held Russia to just one more goal in the quarter while scoring four more to take a commanding 14-4 lead at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter started off as a swim meet as shot after shot hit the post with neither team able to score until Russia broke the deadlock to make it 14-5. The USA Women responded quickly though as Alys Williams struck before Melissa Seidemann pulled off a great move in set as the USA Women finished off the Russians 16-5.
