In accordance with the USA Water Polo Statement of Ethics, a background-screening program will be implemented this year. The USA Water Polo National Office, in assimilation with other youth sports and National Governing Bodies, has decided that a background-screening program for USA Water Polo coach members is a service we can provide our membership. As noted in the Statement of Ethics, public trust is critical to the success of USA Water Polo, and a formalized background screening process for the coaches who supervise our athlete members will substantially further that goal. One of the leaders in background screening, TC logiQ, has signed on to handle the process for USA Water Polo.
Over the last several months USA Water Polo has conducted testing of the online background screening functionality with USAWP staff and rolled out a pilot background-screening program with ODP Coaches and Directors.
All registered coaches must have successfully passed the background screening, also known as a Green Light, and be compliant with CPR & First Aid requirements (EMT, Paramedic, and ACLS certification is accepted). Newly registered coaches will be given 30 days to complete the online background screening before their membership goes into suspension. Currently registered but unscreened coaches will have until May 31 to complete the screening or risk suspension. Suspended members will not appear on verified rosters.
Each successful background screening is good for a two (2) year period. Any failed screenings, also known as Red Lights, will receive notification that they do not meet the criteria, immediately go into suspension mode, and have 30 days to request a hearing. If a hearing is not requested, then the membership is canceled.
