Petri, Beaubien, Moses, and Wright Inducted Into NYAC Hall of Fame

New York, NY - April 23 - At a gala event at the New York Athletic Club on Wednesday, April 22nd, four US Olympic water polo medalists were inducted into the NYAC Hall of Fame.

Heather Petri, Layne Beaubien, Merrill Moses and Adam Wright, all of whom compete for the NYAC, were members of US teams that won silver medals in the women's and men's water polo competitions in Beijing last August. Petri also won a silver medal in 2000 in Sydney and a bronze medal in 2004 in Athens.

In welcoming them into the Hall of Fame, NYAC President Robert F. Geary
commented: "These are truly world class competitors. We are proud to number them among our members and to induct them into our Hall of Fame."

In 2007, Athens Olympians Heather Moody, Natalie Golda and Nicolle Payne became the first females ever inducted into the NYAC of Fame.

In response to his induction this year, Beaubien stated: "If you play club water polo, you want to play for the NYAC."

Petri commented, "It's the support of the NYAC that has helped me be so successful throughout my whole career."

One week prior to the Hall of Fame ceremony, Adam Wright was designated the NYAC's Athlete of the Year.

Among those in New York for this week's induction were 1952 US Olympic water polo team member, Bob Koehler, and Terry Schroeder, a four-time Olympian, two-time medalist, and coach of the men's team in Beijing.

Located in mid-town Manhattan, the New York Athletic Club was founded in 1868 and is among the world's foremost athletic clubs. Forty-one of its members, including 10 water polo players - competed in the Beijing Olympic Games. They won a total of 17 medals.
