USA Women Edged By The Netherlands 8-7 In 5th-8th Place Semifinal

Belgrade, Serbia - September 2 - The USA Women's Youth National Team suffered their second straight one goal loss at the FINA Youth World Championship, dropping an 8-7 decision to the Netherlands. The loss pushes Team USA into the seventh place game against Russia on Sunday. Valerie Ayala led the offense with three goals while Georgia Phillips made 13 saves in net. The Netherlands opened the match in control with a 3-1 lead after the first quarter. Team USA responded with two goals in the second but still trailed by two at halftime down 5-3. They closed the gap in the third quarter clawing their back to within one at 6-5. The two teams were even again in the fourth quarter adding two goals apiece with Team USA unable to come all the way back.

The United States went 1/7 on power plays and 2/3 on penalties with the Netherlands going 3/7 on power plays and 1/1 on penalties.
