USA Youth Women Fall To Italy 7-6, Will Play For 5th-8th Place At FINA Youth World Championship

Belgrade, Serbia - September 1 - The USA Women's Youth National Team will play for 5th-8th place after being eliminated from medal contention at the FINA Youth World Championship following a 7-6 loss to Italy. Abbi Hill scored three goals in the loss with Georgia Phillips and Thea Walsh combining for 11 saves. Team USA returns to action today at 12:00pm et/9:00am pt against the Netherlands. After an even first quarter with the match tied at 1-1, Italy pushed ahead in the second building a 5-2 lead at halftime. Team USA battled back in the second half closing to within 6-4 after three quarters. They tied the match at 6-6 in the fourth before Italy came back with the game-winning goal to secure the victory.

Team USA struggled on the advantage going just 1/8 while Italy was 2/5 with neither side attempting a penalty.
